About Subdivision Survival

“Encouraging a more sustainable life that leads to personal freedom by exposure to new ideas, experiences, and real-life examples”

I am a married father of 3 beautiful girls, an active duty Air Force Senior Non-commissioned officer and an aspiring farmer who is currently residing in a small house, on a small lot in a small subdivision.  I have three years left until I can retire from the Air Force, so in the meantime I plan on doing as much “farming” as I can on our small lot.

Thankfully, I have a great job with a good income so we can afford to do this as a hobby for now and not have to have a positive cash flow.  Hopefully the next three years of experience will prepare us for a move to a larger, rural homestead once I retire, and prepare us to become closer to living a real self-sufficient lifestyle.

My goal with the Subdivisionsurvival.com blog is to share the steps I am taking to create a more self-sufficient life for my family and share my experiences and ideas about small scale food production, basic survivalism and our journey towards financial freedom with anyone who is willing to follow along on our urban homesteading adventure.

Currently on our small subdivision homestead we’ve got a few raised garden beds, a few blackberry bushes, an apple tree, rabbits and  chickens. In addition to trying to raise a garden and a few animals, I will be working to improve our basic preparedness situation (food/water storage, home security and financial freedom).

I believe that financial preparedness is one of the most important steps you can take to live a better life and as we’ve worked to become debt free, I’ve found myself looking at just about everything that I do and thinking, “how can I do this more economically?”  This has led me into a mindset of “how can I produce more for my family for less.”   My goal is to share what I’ve done, what I’m doing, and what I’m going to do, with all of you.

Please feel free to follow my blog, comment on my posts and send me any feedback you feel is important.  Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I hope to continue to build our relationship through these pages in the future.
